Resolution Options
Resolution Options
There are many ways Title IX can resolve a report and the two primary options are alternative resolutions and investigations. Whether a complainant decides to begin a resolution option or not, they can receive safety and supportive measures from the time they begin contact with the university.
Investigation
An investigation is the process used by the Title IX office to carefully examine an allegation or complaint of gender-based harm including sexual harassment and sexual violence in order to determine whether the SVSH policy has been violated, and if so, what steps the University may take to correct and address such a violation, including assessing discipline.
Alternative Resolution
Alternative Resolution is a flexibly structured, voluntary, binding, and remedies-focused process for resolving complaints of prohibited conduct. Alternative Resolution is generally designed as an alternative to a formal Title IX investigation. Alternative resolutions are formalized agreements between the Complainant and Respondent that are designed to identify the harm, prevent future harm, and explore ways to remedy that harm.
Safety and Supportive Measures
We know that SVSH impacts mental health and prevents people from being safe and participating in campus-related activities and events. Supportive measures are implemented to ensure access and meaningful participation for undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty in their education, housing, and employment.
